I was out well before dawn clearing the driveway in the dark with the snowblower (which we’ve named Sparkles). It was -20 F but a good time to get it done because we were forecast to cool off a bit from just Crisp to Seriously Crisp and perhaps even Crisp Unto Brittle. In looking at the temperature now (-37 F), it was a good call. We’ve been sliding downwards all day, and we’ve now reached the point of “This is a test of the Emergency Long Underwear System.”
We’re forecast to hit a high tomorrow of about -40 and a low of -49, so it looks like this test will last for a couple more days. The sun today was spectacular with all the ice crystals in the air, showing not just elongated sun dogs, but a complete arc.
Okay. We’ve found the long underwear. Honey, maybe we should close the windows and swap out the screens…
18 Jan 2017 update: Wheeeeeeee!
Oh, my! Hunker down weather.
Great sun photo!
We’ve bottomed out and are slowly climbing back up. It was -53 when I drove into work yesterday and -45 here at home when I returned in the evening. It’s up to -40 here this morning and headed slowly back up. We’re predicted to hit a balmy high of -9 tomorrow. That will feel positively tropical!
