I was out well before dawn clearing the driveway in the dark with the snowblower (which we’ve named Sparkles). It was -20 F but a good time to get it done because we were forecast to cool off a bit from just Crisp to Seriously Crisp and perhaps even Crisp Unto Brittle. In looking at the temperature now (-37 F), it was a good call. We’ve been sliding downwards all day, and we’ve now reached the point of “This is a test of the Emergency Long Underwear System.”

Violent Snow Globe Refill
Until a couple of days ago I was constantly complaining about how little snow we’ve had so far this season. We’ve been in a major snow drought since October. Whine, whine, whine, whine….DUMP!! Our snow drought is over. It is violently over. We needed a snow globe refill and we got the six-pack. All in one night.

We’re not wood snobs. If it will burn well, into the firewood pile it goes. So while cutting, moving, and stacking wood, some real ugly cusses get brought along in the process. They can screw up a good woodpile because they can be grotesquely misshapen, so I often put them on top. But where they really gum up the works is in the splitting.

Rowing Lessons
Some of the comments surrounding my post on Take to the Oars raised good questions (posted online and through email). One friend “had no idea you were such an activist.” I haven’t been, but it’s time. If you look at the long list I gave of important issues that are now in play with this recent election, I think we need to watch and work to influence things when they start to go in a negative direction. So activism becomes important. I’m not normally an activist, so I needed to do some homework. Activism. Thanks, Wikipedia.
